Goku took Sanzo's silence as his answer, the lack of words told Goku exactly what he wanted to know. That Sanzo, no matter how long they remained basic 'master and pet', would never tell him anything more than Goku already knew. But he still knew enough to predict what Sanzo would be like in a situation, where he would go if he wanted to be alone or what he might say. Even though the saru knew so little about Sanzo, he was still willing to fight anybody who wanted to harm him, he'd give his life before anybody laid a finger upon the fake monk.
Talk about a loyal 'pet'...
"But why?!" He asked, his voice rising to become slightly more clearer, "why should i be quiet?" He repeated, just in case Sanzo was unsure of what he was questioning, "you never tell me anything, and i hate it... I hate being kept in the dark Sanzo. I really hate it." He had resigned himself over to the fact that Sanzo wasn't going to tell... But that didn't mean that he was going to fall silent. Falling silent meant he would be giving himself over to the sounds of the storm outside, which was something he didn't want to do. To hear a voice was comforting. Even if it was one with as sharp an edge as Sanzo's.

Sanzo stayed silent for a few seconds which dragged out like a death march within the sound of rain lashing down the window panes and mixing with the sound of rolling thunder when Goku stopped talking. Sanzo's fingers had tensed over his arms slightly as the stupid monkey's voice once again dared enter his silence which he so dearly wanted. His whole body turned slightly to the side as he face moved to look at the shape of Goku in his bed, his sandelled foot taking a step to the side so he could moved easily..though his line of sight not going directly to the Saru's..but more to the floor, his voice cutting through the air like lightening itself, direct and piercing in that rouge tone "Dammit Goku when i tell you to be quiet i mean it!" he shouted at Goku through his frustration cause pureply by the rain "So shut up!" He finished bluntly. His body moving back to the posture that it previously was in. Standing before the window surveying the dull outside world through droopy eyes. His slender arms crossed over each other and falling once again silent. Last time he was like this he had explained to goku that it was only because of the rain to why he was moody. Nothing more. It wasn't the monkey's fault..so he should stop questioning. He wasn't going to give in.
"you never tell me anything, and i hate it... I hate being kept in the dark Sanzo. I really hate it." Those words of Goku's rung inside Sanzo's head as he looked out. He didn't mean to hurt the saru..but at times like these, he couldn't help it. "There's nothing you need to know about...so can it" Sanzo spoke these words a little more softer to after he shouted at Goku..yet still holding a hostile edge to them. Just not as strong. Although he may have been speaking to Goku however...his attention was fully on the outside world..of the rain pouring down before him and finsihing off his cigerette to replace it with a new one. Already the pile of burnt out cigerette dog-ends had begun to appear. Last time he finished a whole packet...that was how much the rain affected him.

There was movement on Goku's bed in which lasted only a few seconds before the lump that was the Saru fell still. The quilt that had before seemed only to bridge where his body was now tilted up at the edge, and if somebody looked closely and carefully enough, a pair of golden eyes could just about be seen peering into the semi-dark room. No words escaped the Saru's mouth as he stared at the figure stood beside the window, he just watched. It was almost as if he was waiting for something to happen, something that nobody, not even himself could figure out. He just wanted Sanzo to do anything. anythign except stand and stare out at the rain for hours on end. It wasn't healthy and it worried Goku, worried him to the point that he even forgot (even if it was minutes) about food.
Sanzo was Goku's only family... Or anything that was close enough for him to regard as something akin to family. The monkey had been born on a rock, he had no parents, no siblings, nobody to call his own. He couldn't even call Sanzo's his from fear of getting shot. There had been a time when he'd called the monk 'Uncle Sanzo', that hadn't gone down too well with Sanzo. He'd wanted to know why Goku had called him that and after he'd told him then he was told never to do it again. The group they were in now suited all of their purposes.. Or more like it suited every purpose of Goku's anyway. He had somebody to keep him entertained, the Kappa kept him occupied even if it was only to argue with him. Hakkai spoke to him, cared for him like some kind of mother hen, he was more of an older brotherly figure than anything else. Then there was Sanzo. He was the Sun. There is no other word to describe the priest better than that to Goku... Sanzo was the one who had taken him from the lonely mountain, he was the one who had guided Goku and brought him back to civilisation.
Goku sighed heavily, moving once again until his head was rested upon the pillow at the head of the bed, "Sanzo," he said softly, blinking golden eyes at the priest. He didn't wait for the monk to answer in any way, he just pulled the quilt up to his chin and closed his eyes with a final word of, "g'night."
He wouldn't be able to sleep though... Not until he was sure Sanzo had settled for the night...

Sanzo didn't move when Goku uttered a word to him and even said goodnight. Sanzo just stayed silent, standing before the window, arms crossed casually with a cigerette in his mouth. He wasn't about to go to sleep soon...he would probably stay up most or even all of the night...
Sanzo's figure from behind was stillouetted by the dull bluish light that lit the small area infront of the window where the lean figure of Sanzo stood. His purple eyes lit up briefly when he breathed in his cigerette where the end of the burning sinder glowed a dull orange before returning back to darkness. His face was softly touched by the gloomy light of the evening and his hair dully shone in the little bright light that remained. His body remained that of tensed and unmoving as he viewed the wet night sky from where the rain was pouring from the heavens. Once again drifted off into a world of his own where memories best forgotten ruled and flased over his vision. Seperating him from the present and back to the past. Just standing there...like a statue without a care for the world and not even worrying what harm he may have caused the saru behind him. Infact..just forgetting entirely of what was around him.
He stood there for minutes upon minutes..building up and up for what seemed like forever. Not once moving his posture and only maybe blinking once or twice in a drawn out minute or two. Smoking down his cigerette that was reaching steadily to it's ending point before he would have to light yet another one and smoke that one out. Until eventually the packet would run out. Then..and only then...would he actually move properly. And that may be only to get another packet of cigerettes...then who knows? He'll probably just return to his standing point infront of the soaking window pane that kept the rain form entering the room.
All that time...and only the sound of a burning cigerette, the rain..and the rumbiling thunder was too be heard. All that time..the fake monk stood there drowned in past memories. Unsleeping.

What seemed like hours later to Goku, but what was in fact only seconds, the saru opened his eyes once again, staring hard at the back of Sanzo's head. The fake monk truly didn't realize that Goku was going to stay awake all night watching him, just to make sure he was alright. He didn't seem to know that Goku was awake at all... Or if he did he didn't seem to care all that much. But then, Goku supposed that if he was quiet it didn't really matter to Sanzo.
"Hn.." He sighed softly, one hand rising from beneath the blankets to scratch his forehead distractedly. His hand brushed the cool metal of his coronet and his hand flinched away ever so slightly, not enough though for anybody but himself to notice. Maybe one of the others if they were really paying attention, "Sanzo.." He said in a surprisingly normal voice compared to the softness earlier. Speaking was better than listening to the storm. Definitely. "You should sleep.. Whatever the rain does to you won't be made better by you standin there..."

Sanzo's eyes widened every so slightly at the noise of Goku's seeminly normal tone and he turned his head around to the saru still in his sheets but now looking at him directly..didn't he do anything he was told? The soft noise Goke had made earlier didn't even snap Sanzo out of his little day dream and the cigerette butt was burning down quickly and he stubbornily smoked it through. He was on his last one...
The ask dropped lightly to the floor as he turned and faced Goku with a couldn't care less expression, his arms falling from their crossed position, "Hmph...i thought i told you to go to sleep..." he commented a little annoyed at the fact that Goku still hadn't gone to sleep. He turned his head back away to face the window pane and the outside, inwhich rainstill poured and thunder still rumbled. "I'll make that decision for myself..." he said stubbornly as he looked outside...his eyes closed briefly as he spoke, feeling the weight of tiredness and worry of the past memories haunting him layikng down heavily on his eyes lids. He only opened them because he might just drop asleep..they had been walking most of the day, and Sanzo was tired. The cigerette reached it's last legs....
Sanzo took it from his mouth and put it in the pile on the window will that had formed solidly since the beginning of his smoking spree. Out of habit he reached into his robes and pulled out his cigerette packet, looked down..and saw none left. He had replaced the packet without even seeing if he had another to go. He crushed it in his tightened fist and threw it ontop of the small mountain of burnt out cigerettes, softly and bluntly cursing. He stood there for a moment...but it really wasn't the same..the cigerettes helped take his mind of it...even just a little bit at lest..but now there was nothing in his grasp to take. Except the annoyance of Goku..but he didn't think he could stand the Bakasaru for much longer before having to chuck him out for the night.
Begrudingly Sanzo turned towards his bed, making sure not to make eye contact with Goku...he wasn't doing what the saru said..he was doing what he wanted..no one else's wish. It was only because he had run out of cigerettes and didn't feel like going out to get them...he would make Goku get him some in the morning. Sanzo kicked off his sandels beside his bed and with a soft flop...crumpled onto the bed. His eyes faced the ceiling and for a long while, he lay there staring at the blank whiteness above him, purple eyes staring at point blank. But slowly...he began to drift off into sleep...tiredness building heavily upon him as he lay there, finally not doing anything to keep him from sleeping. Comfort enveloping his tense body and making his muscles inch by inch relax. Until his eyes finally full closed and Sanzo looked finally asleep.

Goku smiled to himself and slipped out of his bed, finally going to get ready to go to bed. Sanzo hadn't noticed that the Saru hadn't changed into his sleep wear, wearing his usual clothes to bed was just plain uncomfortable, plus, they smelt funny. Sanzo seemed to be sleeping, and Goku could be pretty quiet when he wanted to be. Which meant that within minutes his clothes were discarded upon the floor and he had light blue jammies on... They weren't very masculin, but they were comfortable and they smelt nice. A little bit like meat buns. That was only because last time he'd been wearing them he'd had a huge plate of previously mentioned meat buns...
The saru slipped beneath the quilt once again, a small smile on his face. Sanzo had gone to sleep.. It might not have been because of him, but still, it gave him a mild satisfaction. "Night Sanzo," he said quietly for the second time that night, as he rested his head upon his pillow.
Golden eyes were closed and he'd slipped off into a dream world before he'd even had time to think whether or not he was comfortable. Here's to hoping the storm would have passed by morning..

But Sanzo didn't get a good night's sleep inwhich one may have hoped for. Sanzo's night was filled with mixtures of old past memories combining and twisting together to show him all the bad things which had happened to him when he was younger. There's no need to list them all...you probably get the main idea by now of what went through Sanzo's unresting mind. But the funny thing was...it only seemed to occure vividly when it was raining. And tonight was no exception.
Although he didn't wake up as soon as he drifted off...kept tossing and turning as the early hours of the morning hit. It was dark...and the outside world seemed to have settled apart from a little drizzle that was seeming to ease off. The thunder had ceased throughout the midnight part of the time and throughout that time Sanzo had been fast asleep, catching up on some deep sleep. Not once waking up...until now that is.
As the nightmares began to unfold upon the unfortunate Sanzo, beads of sweat began to form on the monk's fair skin and his expression became agitated. Small noises escaped his mouth as he turned to his side as his face temporarily screwed up as a striking image of his master's blood covered dead body propped up right before his eyes in uncomforting detail. However it did not last long before Sanzo stopped tossing and turning. His finger's tightened their grips on the egde of the bed cover that was under him and suddenly after a small shout of shock, Sanzo's eyes burst open in a widely shocked gaze. He had rolled back onto his back and he stared panting slightly from the feeling of a just past nightmare at the dull white ceiling, untightening his grip from the covers. He pushed himself up and looked down at his robes over his legs as golden hair flopped around his lightly sweat beaded face and he calmed himself down, placing a hand over his face. "Dammit.." he muttered harshly as the noticement that he only ever witnessed those nightmares vividly when it was raining. Damn that weather...he better not have woken up that stupid monkey.
That's all he needed...Goku worrying over him when he had just been rudely interrupted from needed sleep.

The door opened slowly, a thin trail of light widening it's pathway over the wooden floorboards of the room. It was opening painfully slowly, almost as if the person behind it didn't want to wake the occupants within the room. Or more like, since it was Cho Hakkai, he wanted to be sure that Sanzo wouldn't shoot him. All of them knew that any Youkai would just barge on into the room, swords swinging, fists flailing. They had no sense of self preservation nor any idea of how to plan an attack without being killed in seconds.
"Sanzo?" A voice asked carefully. Hakkai was stood half in, half out of the room, his head, part of his shoulders and torso just visible from the hallway light, "I heard whimpering.. and thrashing." To say just this might anger the fake monk ever so slightly, so he continued with one of those smiles of his, the type that you never quite knew what meant. "We don't want to wake Goku, else he'll be needed twice as much breakfast to refuel."
The converted Youkai was still in his clothes, he hadn't yet changed for bed. He'd been abandoned by Gojyo who had decided to speak to some woman at the bar and so he'd decided to bed would be the best. Hakuryuu could have kept him company, but apparently no pets were allowed in the inn. He was outside, sheltered between two buildings. The glass of his monacle blackened out his right eye, leaving only the left one staring at the golden haired priest with disinterested amusement, "i'm surprised he's sleeping actually.." He'd expected Goku to stay awake, worrying about Sanzo until the monk snapped and threw him from the room. Maybe the saru was maturing?

Sanzo's head whipped round to the slowly opening door and instinctly went for his gun that he kept by him always. He pulled back the trigger in a swift movement and pointed it at the door, still sat in bed, with lightly sweat beaded face and with a grumpy and stubborn expression. Sanzo would shoot any attacker with no hesitation and without any doubt, he didn't care for assassins...though as the figure who was opening the door emerdged into more of the thin light trail..Sanzo saw that is was none other but that always smiling Hakkai.
Hmph...well, at least it wasn't Goku who was talking to him. Sanzo let the trigger down and lowered his gun so he laid his arm over a raised knee and sat with one leg crossed on the bed, looking a little tired yet alert from his sudden wake from a nightmare. Hakkai's voice followed that cheery look on the demon's face and Sanzo didn't return the smile, he never did. He just sat and watched Hakkai from his bed and muttered something about him might having killing Hakkai because he disturbed him. But he didn't really mean it...honest. He was just a little shaken up more than usual. Memories did the most harm to him. Even when he had been beaten so much he'd been passed out for four days solid...the only thing that pained him the most was the bad dreams. He even got violent and without him knowing, as he was still asleep at the time, Gojyo had to restrain him in bed to keep him from doing any harm. Sanzo was pained by memories. And those purple eyes that saw so many bad things were now gazing directly and droopingly at that smiling face inwhich you could never tell what he was thinking..that annoyed Sanzo sometimes....especially when Hakkai mentioned that he heard whimpering and thrashing. Only because Sanzo knew that Hakkai had heard him having a nightmare and the monk's face went a shade darker. His hand momentarily tightening its grip on his gun.
He turned his face to the sleeping Goku. Well he was glad that that stupid monky hadn't woken up...what Hakkai said was true..Goku would eat twice as much. And the usual portions usually emptied a whole eat-out place in no time...that was how much the saru ate. "I told him to go to sleep..." Sanzo muttered a little wearily as he looked at sleeping Goku briefly before turning his gaze carelessly back to Hakkai "Do you want something Hakkai?" he asked not as meanly as the night before..but still a little edged with irritation. Probably mostly to do with his rude awakening. Hakkai had witnessed one of his nightmares before...and he didn't particuarly like anyone seeing him like that.

"Nothing in particular," he answered, his smile faltering ever so slightly at the edges. A wave of seriousness passed over his face, replacing the neutral glint in a deep green eye with a slight look of concern. He knew that the rain affected both Sanzo and Gojyo in similar yet different ways. Gojyo at least attempted to make out that he was fine, Sanzo, on the other hand, shut himself away and locked the door. Nobody would get anything other than a snappy remark from him until the last cloud cleared and the last puddle evaporated. Hakkai could accept that, it was Goku who had the difficulty in accepting the change in the fake monk. The little primate hated secrets and seemed distressed when things were kept hidden from him, it was one of the things that made him go off of his food. Because of Sanzo, Goku seemed to be enjoying the rain less and less.
The 'nanny' of the group entered the room, closing the door silently behind him as not to awaken the sleeping monkey. To have Goku awake would just irritate Sanzo ever more, something in which Hakkai didn't want happening. He took a few steps forwards, the room darker now that the light of the hallway had been cut out. The moon was nearly full, yet heavy rain clouds hid it from view, covering the land in a veil of darkness. It was the only thing about rain storms that Hakkai disliked, that and that if you were caught outside or in the middle of nowhere then you were bound to get soaked. Being soaked to the skin tended to give Goku, or Sanzo a sniffly cold. Moaning or moods always went downhill in those circumstances.
He sat himself somewhat elegantly in one of the chairs, "i doubt he fell asleep straight off," he smiled, tearing his gaze from Sanzo to Goku, "he might be obedient at times, but not when you're smoking three times the usual. I don't believe he's as dumb as everybody thinks Sanzo, and he worries."

Sanzo watched Hakkai enter the room with a watchful eyes and in the meantime wiped a hand over his forehead to clear the beads of sweat from his face, his gun still in his moving hand and not putting it down till the green eyed demon had sat himself down. Sanzo placed the gun on the window sill right by his bed and his gaze moved once again to the outside wold beyond the pane of glass. To the heavy rain clouds that partially covered the glowing full moon and seeing spots of rain still landing lightly on the glass' barrier from the outside. Those pair of purple eyes blinked at the sight of that miserable weather and he forced his gaze back to Hakkai who was now looking at Goku..Sanzo had even been partically listening, and was still being distracted by the night's vivid nightmare which caused him so much pain inside.
He turned his own gaze a little begrudgingly to the saru and made himself look somewhat gloomy and silent. Three times as usual huh? He always got commented on things like that when he felt slightly unnerved or otherwise...and now Sanzo frowned as he turned his gaze to his crumpled up cigerettee packet and then back to Hakkai, swinging his feet round and off the bed to place them on the floor. Moving his body to sit on the edge of the bed so he could view the room much easier with a more keen eye. He made a small 'huh' noise at the mention of Goku worrying...he worried far too much sometimes..too much for his own good. "He shouldn't get himself worked up over things he doesn't need to know about..." Sanzo commented stubbornly as his droopy eyed gaze under the longer strands of golden hair moved to the sleeping figure of Goku. He didn't really think tha Goku was extremely stupid...just stupid more in an annoying way more than everything else..and he diciplined him at that. With his fan. Yes the paper fan of dicipline inwhich he hit Goku over the head with when he did something wrong. He didn't bother with the whole sitting down and explaining part..he just hit him over the head and was done with it.
Sanzo turned his gaze once again to the dull dark outside landscape on the otherside of the glass. Not being able to smoke and not be bothered to go get some made his source of doing something very slim. So as usual through these troubled weathered nights, he looked outsde. Face a mask of solemness and with droopy glazed eyes. Sure, it'll probably not help him sleep..but it was an instinctive thing to do at that moment....watch and remember. He needed something to take his mind of it..but not alot took his mind off things when he was like this. Which pretty much sucked really.

Hakkai hadn't noticed the beads of sweat upon Sanzo's, not until the golden haired priest had wiped the liquid from his brow with the back of his hand. It must have been one hell of a nightmare to have the monk sweating in his sleep, it must have affected Sanzo in some way, be it with fright, shame or regret. Hakkai knew it would cause Sanzo to be on edge a little, he didn't seem to like people seeing him in a weak state. When he'd just awoken from a nightmare just so happened to be one of them. He noticed Sanzo staring over the window and followed the monk's gaze to the empty cigarette packet, it seemed that he'd ran out. Perhaps that had been the reason he'd led down and drifted off to sleep, he had nothing to occupy his mind with other than his steadily growing weariness, "we'll be needing to go shopping before we leave tomorrow," he said simply, trying to actually be helpful and neutral at the same time. Acting as if here was something wrong with Sanzo wouldn't get him anywhere.. Sanzo didn't like being treated like some little kid who just wouldn't tell his parents what had frightened him so.
He smiled, now looking out at the rain splattered window and out at the distorted scenery beyond the glass pane, "it's not those memories of yours that worry him," he told Sanzo, "it's the way you behave. Your appetite, your habits and your lack of sleep." Meaning he didn't eat, he smoked far too much and snapped ever more so and he hardly got any sleep..

Sanzo listened to Hakkai's words silently as he continued to look out of the window, his gaze never faultering once until Hakkai spoke of the way Sanzo acted whe he was like this. At that he turned his gaze back round to Hakkai. Sanzo's face was somehow calm yet tindged with slight darkness that was carried from his nightmare not too long ago. At least Hakkai wasn't treating him like a child however...that annoyed him greatly. And he really could just shoot someone if they treated him like that.
Hakkai was right he supposed...yet Sanzo's stubborn nature stood in its way and refused to admit the truth. So Sanzo's expression barely changed from it's solid state. When Sanzo was like this...he refused to eat, even if Goku had gone out on a desperate errand by himself just for Sanzo's sake, and even if Hakkai prepared a freash meal for him. Everytime he just left the things alone, untouched. If it was avoidable he wouldn't sleep...he only went to sleep because he had run out if cigerettes which kept his mind off things..and in normal circumstances he would try the best he could in his forceful nature to not drift off. They usually ended with a nightmare like he'd just had. And nightmares caused him to feel a little more weaker and vunerable...which wasn't something the strong-hearted monk wanted to feel. Sanzo, not eating and not getting sleep plus smoking to his heart's content..made him snappy and moody...irritated at the slightest thing and not wanting to particuarly talk. Fine he could have found a way to ignore those past memories which haunted him so...but just couldn't. It was one of those things...and it affected Goku terribly. He'd even felt a little sorry for the saru when he last lashed out at him...but of course hadn't shown it straight away. But only towards the end when he at last found Goku and emerdged form his room..petting the saru on the head to show that he wasn't mad at him...he didn't even hit him with his fan. A more careing side of Sanzo perhaps...rare yet something to hold on to to just remind people that Sanzo was just like every other human. Trapped by emotions..yet also being able to mould them into the 'Genjo Sanzo' way of living...to not be held by a quote that bound him, and resistricted him. He lived his own way of life with no doubts.
Sanzo's voice emerdged from his mouth still a little rougher than usual, and quite from not wanted to wake Goku up "He know's it's just the rain...he should have learnt to deal with it by now.." Sanzo commented bluntly, still stubborn to his nature. He'd told Goku it was only the rain...and Goku shouldn't be worried, Sanzo had told of the reason. So he should have learnt to deal with it. But then again...wouldn't he be worried if a person he desperatly cared about suddenly changed like this? Wouldn't he have been like Goku, worried and a little nervous if his old master suddenly changed his mood everytime it rained? That wasn't a question worth really thinking about...the answer was obvious. Yes.
